News / Chamber of Commerce
SHETLAND’s business community could soon speak with one collective voice.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise is hosting a business breakfast later this month to explore the possibility of setting up a local Chamber of Commerce.
Guest speakers Liz Cameron, chief executive of the Scottish Chamber’s of Commerce, and Liam Smyth, of the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, will share information on the role and benefits of having a chamber of commerce.
Local HIE manager Rachel Hunter said the event could lead to a working group being set up.
“Against a backdrop of a buoyant private sector and public sector cuts, a chamber could provide the business perspective on issues such as housing, investment and industry transition to maximise on opportunities and ensure Shetland continues to be a successful, sustainable and diverse community,” she said.
Anyone interested in attending the breakfast on Wednesday 30 October at 8am in the Shetland Hotel, St Catherine’s Suite, should register with Rachael Hume (e-mail: rachael.hume@hient.co.uk or tel. 01595 744907) by Friday 11 October.
