News / Lock knife man escapes jail
A LERWICK man with a long criminal record escaped a jail sentence after pleading guilty to being in possession of a lock knife in a public place on 10 April this year.
Lerwick Sheriff Court heard that George Hogg, of 66 Nederdale, had already been kept in custody for three months, which was equivalent to a six-month jail term.
Sheriff Philip Mann told the 31 year old that with his record a lengthy custodial sentence would have been justified.
Taking the custody period into consideration, the sheriff put Hogg under supervision for 18 months and told him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
