News / Jail warning for Nelson
A YOUNG Shetland serial offender was lucky to keep his freedom when he appeared before Lerwick Sheriff Court and pled guilty to attempting to reset jewellery worth £1,000 at an address in Scalloway, on 16 January this year.
Defence solicitor Gregor Kelly said it would be very tempting to send Adam Nelson of Underhoull, in Scalloway, straight back to jail.
He said the 24 year old needed to be given another chance after responding positively to drug treatment. Nelson had also found a job in a fish factory, he added.
Sheriff Philipp Mann said that since there was “a glimmer of hope” he was prepared to keep Nelson out of prison while a criminal justice report was being prepared.
But he warned that he would need to be persuaded not to send Nelson to jail when he will re-appear for sentencing on 18 September.
