News / Green nominations sought
ONCE again Shetland Amenity Trust is seeking nominations for its annual Shetland Environment Awards, which this year celebrate their 25th anniversary.
Whilst there are no specific categories, nominations may come from projects associated with recycling and waste management; the built environment, habitat creation and land stewardship; prevention of litter and pollution; heritage and culture and environmental improvement and awareness.
Shetland Environment Group chairman Brian Gregson said he hoped this milestone year would attract a bumper crop of applications.
“The group always looks forward to receiving the award applications as they give a real sense of the impressive range of environmental projects undertaken in the isles” he said.
The awards are sponsored by Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Scottish Natural Heritage, Shetland Islands Council, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Shetland Civic Society, VisitShetland and Shetland Amenity Trust.
The awards event is sponsored by the Total E&P UK and Dong Energy Laggan-Tormore Project.
For the first time applications can be completed online through the Shetland Amenity Trust website.
Electronic application packs can also be requested through info@shetlandamenity.org and paper copies from the Shetland Amenity Trust offices, Garthspool, Lerwick or by calling 01595 694688.
The closing date for award applications is 12 noon, Friday 13 September with the awards presented at a ceremony in the Shetland Museum and Archives in November.
