News / Shetland’s first gold medals
SHETLAND swimmers Felix Gifford and Andrea Strachan have won the islands first gold medals in Bermuda.
Gifford won the 200 metre butterfly in a time of just over two minutes and two seconds, less than half a second of second placed Josep Mercadel Macaro of Menorca.
Strachan came first in the 50 metres breast stroke with a time of 31.36 seconds, a island games record.
Gifford followed his success by winning silver in the men’s 200m individual medley with a time of two minutes and six seconds.
Meanwhile Joan Smith was beaten 3 – 0 by Jersey’s Sarah Taylor in the women’s single squash final to win a silver medal for Shetland.
