News / Lottery cash for youth café
A SHETLAND youth café project is one of the first in Scotland to benefit from a new National Lottery funding stream.
The Yell Youth Café is to receive £8,000 from Celebrate, a funding programme set up to celebrate the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
The project is a joint venture between the café and the Young Scot Shetland youth legacy ambassadors.
The council’s youth services support worker Martin Summers said the cash would be used to start celebrating Glasgow 2014.
“This funding will provide Shetland’s young people with the opportunity to ensure that Glasgow 2014 and the four legacy themes reach the length and breadth of Scotland.”
Youth legacy ambassador Sam Maver added: “We are so excited to receive the Celebrate funding as it allows young people in Shetland to get involved in sporting and cultural events to help raise awareness of the Commonwealth Games.
“The funding will help to promote Glasgow 2014 in Shetland so that young people can get involved and feel part of the legacy the games will provide for the next generation.”
On Thursday, the National Lottery announced 10 further recipients of Celebrate funding across Scotland.
