News / Six hill challenge

Sandy Peterson.

TWO ACTIVE pensioners are to conquer six of the highest hills on Shetland mainland in one day in a bid to raise funds for local charityDisability Shetland.

Former teacher Sandy Peterson and southend councillor Allison (Flea) Duncan will set off early on 5 July starting with Ronas Hill (450 metres high) in the north and finishing off at Fitful Head (283 m) at Shetland’s south tip.

The challenge also includes Dale Scord (252m), Scalla Field (281m), Roylfield (293m) and the Ward of Scousburgh (263m).

They will be accompanied by Peterson’s nephew Richard Gatehouse, a hill runner from Blairgowrie who will be in Shetland on holiday at the time.

They hope to raise least £1,000 for the charity to help boost its funds which are affected by continuous public sector cuts.

Peterson, a volunteer and trustee of Disability Shetland, said they felt the time was right to do some local fundraising.

Donations forms are available from Market House, the Vidlin Shop, Hand-Made Fish in the Toll Clock Shopping Centre, or directly from Sandy Peterson on 01595 577 321, e-mail: peterson@skelberry.shetland.co.uk
