News / Dating disaster
A YELL fish factory worker who fell foul of an internet dating site was fined at Lerwick Sheriff Court for breaching a bail condition not to contact his former partner.
Last year 50 year old Alistair Kirk admitted breaching the peace at the woman’s home on the isle of Yell in May.
Sentence was deferred for good behaviour and he was told to stay away from the woman.
However on Wednesday the court heard that a Belgium-based internet dating site had sent Kirk’s photo and personal information to the entire contact list on his computer, including his ex partner.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said Kirk, who lives at The Old School House, West Sandwick, Yell, should have had the wit to remove the woman from his contact list considering the bail conditions he was under.
However defence agent Tommy Allan said his client had not realised the dating site would send his details out to all the contacts on his computer.
“A number of friends and family were contacted by this site and that’s not something he instructed them to do,” Allan said.
Sheriff Philip Mann accepted that the contact had not been deliberate and fined Kirk £400 for the original breach of the peace.
