News / Triathlete heads for Turkey
SHETLAND triathlete Lynsey Henderson has secured a sponsorship deal to help her compete in the European championships this summer.
The 30 year old top athlete has been working for Intertek as a lab-based chemist at the Sullom Voe oil terminal for the last six years.
Their sponsorship will enable the Lerwick lass to compete for Great Britain in Alanya, Turkey, in the tough triathlon, which includes a gruelling 1500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run.
“Having Intertek’s support is a big help with travel costs. The sponsorship takes a huge amount of pressure off and means I can really concentrate on my training and doing well at the competition,” she said.
Last year Henderson was named the number one senior woman in Scotland. She won a silver medal for sprint distance triathlons at the 2010 European Championships.
Intertek’s Raymond Pirie said: “We are all extremely proud of Lynsey and are pleased to be able to play a part in helping her achieve sporting success.”
