Letters / ‘Fair is not fair’
The ’20 per cent introductory islander discount’ introduced by NorthLink is yet another con: even with the ‘concession’ the cost of meals is higher than they were with the previous operator.
Disembarking islanders can purchase a full (and fuller) breakfast ashore for half the price charged by NorthLink.
The 20 per cent is in fact a surcharge imposed on tourists and non-residents, and, given the ‘introductory’ nature of the offer; it is just a matter of time before everyone is paying the full whack.
When that happens, at least visitors will not feel discriminated against when they take note that they are paying considerably more for an identical breakfast than the islander ahead of them in the queue.
Perhaps Serco should jettison the fatuous slogan ‘Far is not far’, and adopt a more apposite one: according to Serco ‘Fair is not fair’.
