News / Shetland Boat Show
SHETLAND is planning to host its first boat show for more than a decade at the Clickimin Centre, in Lerwick, in May.
The Shetland Sailing Centre which represents the islands five sailing clubs orgainsed its first boat show in 2002, but no one has had the time to make it happen again until this year.
Treasurer Neil Fraser said sailing is healthy in the isles with a strong input of new recruits in the junior section of the sport.
Sailing will get a boost next year when it hosts the European Fireball Championships for the second time, having held them in 2003.
The show will showcase all activities on and around the water in Shetland and will raise money to boost sail training in the isles.
“Marine activities are at the heart of our islands whether fishing, sailing or diving,” Fraser said.
“We enjoy some of the best marine facilities and locations and it was felt we should celebrate this.”
The boat show will be held on 18 and 19 May and has already received an encouraging response from exhibitors.
Anyone interested in taking part in the show can contact Neil Fraser on 07824 814998 or shetlandboatshow2013@yahoo.co.uk.
