News / Quo confirmed to play the Click
VETERAN ROCKERS Status Quo have confirmed they will play a one-off concert at the Clickimin Leisure Centre, in Lerwick, on 22 August.
Last month, local promoter Malcolm Younger floated the idea of bringing the hugely popular band to Shetland, and asked for pledges from local people willing to pay £75 per ticket.
On Friday, he confirmed that 900 tickets have already been reserved, enough for him to feel confident enough to go ahead with the venture.
The remaining 300 tickets will go on sale at High Level Music, in Lerwick, on Saturday 28 July as of 9am. They will be sold on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
Any profits from the Quo gig will go towards the Callum Younger Reach Fund, a charity Mr Younger set up in memory of his son, who died suddenly in 2005.
Mr Younger said he was delighted to have managed to pull off what could be a once in a lifetime gig for Shetland.
“The Status Quo management have been very helpful and patient; they are really keen to play a gig in Shetland.
“Not only will people be able to have a really good night and enjoy the famous Status Quo, they will also see local band No Sweat as well as helping children in Shetland reach their dreams in life,” he said
Doors will be open at 6.30pm with No Sweat playing for an hour as of 7.30pm before the Quo take the stage at about 9pm.
Mr Younger added that he wanted to thank the concert’s sponsors Star Rent a Car, Bolts Car Hire and Johnson Transport.
