Leo most used baby name in Shetland last year
LEO was the most popular baby name in Shetland last year, according to new data.
It was used four times in 2025, with Lewis and Sonny also being picked by Shetland parents three times each.
National Records of Scotland’s annual data is broken down by council area but only provides the forenames given to three or more babies.
With no girls names on the list for Shetland for a second year in a row, this means that no lasses names were used more than twice in 2025.
The statistics relate to birth registrations.
They state that 95 boys were registered in Shetland in 2024, and 88 boys.
Nationally, Noah was again the most used boys name in Scotland in 2025, with Freya becoming the most popular name for the first time.
Freya and Noah were the most popular names for girls and boys born to mothers aged under 25.
For mothers aged 40 and over, the most used names were Sophie and Alexander.
Other popular boys names in Scotland last year included Luca, Rory, Muhammed and Oliver, while for girls Isla, Olivia, Amelia and Grace were among the top picks.
