Letters / What will it take to deal with anti-social behaviour?
I am truly shocked and surprisingly puzzled at the light policing from the incident that happened in Lerwick over the weekend with regards to the group of feral youth who ran well across any line accepted in a society that is run on law and order.
What would it take for the police and the SIC social services to stamp out this anti-social behaviour and gang culture of group attacks.
I fear it will be for one of our youths getting killed by this thug-like behaviour.
For the chief inspector to basically come out and say well guys they are under 18 we cannot touch them is pure and simple madness and sends totally the wrong message to this thug-like behaviour.
The age of criminal liability in Scotland is 12. It is their job to actually serve and protect the community before someone pays with their life.
These thugs should feel the full force of the law even if that means jailing them in young offenders or secure rehabilitation units, giving them banning orders for a time or ASBOs. No community should accept this behaviour on their streets.
It’s time the chief inspector of Police Scotland does his job or slings his hook and allows someone in to actually police our streets and stamp out this behaviour before someone pays with their life. It really is that simple.
