NESS UNITED made the early move to the top of the Ocean Kinetics Premier League table after a win over Spurs on Friday night.
Reece Black netted the game’s only goal at the North Loch pitch in Lerwick, which leaves Highland Fuels cup winners Ness as the only team with a 100 per cent league record.
There were two draws in Friday’s other games, but certainly no stalemates as the goals flew in.
Champions Whitedale were held to an opening draw against Scalloway, with eight goals shared between the two. In the other match, Thistle and Whalsay drew 3-3 in an entertaining encounter.
Tonight (Friday) sees Thistle and Celtic meet on the 3G pitch in town, while league leaders Ness travel to Hamnavoe to face Scalloway. Whitedale host Whalsay in Strom.
Newly formed Boca Seniors are the early leaders of the Jewson Championship after thrashing Banks 5-1 on Saturday night.
Other newcomers Rusty Spoons fell to a 2-0 defeat to Ness C, while Southside Impact stunned Delting B to win 4-3 in the South Mainland.
Bressay’s match against Wastside Rebels was postponed due to no available referees.
THE NEWHILLS Quaich competition took place on Saturday with 42 players on the bowls green, including guests from Edinburgh’s Hillside Bowling Club.
The game was a triples competition over three sets of six ends, scoring two points for a win and one for a draw.
After the third set, two teams had won all their games so it came down to shot difference. The winning team, with a difference of 14 was Margaret Robertson, Margaret Johnson and Scott Hurst.

With a shot difference of 12, the valiant runners-up were Anne Roberetson, Eric Muir and Graeme Laidlaw.
The trophy was presented to the winning team by club president Bob Brandie.
RACING driver Marshall Wishart was back at Knockhill at the end of April in the Scottish Championship round one, taking part in the Superlap Scotland category.
He achieved some fairly quick times during the warm-up session in his Lotus Elise S3 on Saturday but had to pull out due to a catastrophic gear box failure.
He managed to source another gearbox and worked all night to replace it, finishing at 5am on Sunday morning.
The car performed well during the warm-up session but unfortunately hit a tyre wall barrier during qualifying, bringing the end to his weekend.
Even though it was not the best weekend’s racing he has ever had he is looking forward to the next round.
