Community / Old Brae toilets ‘ideal for holiday let’ redevelopment as they go up for auction
THE FORMER public toilets in Brae are set to go up for auction – with the estate agent saying they could be “ideal” for being redeveloped into a holiday let.
The toilets have a guide price of £10,000, despite an individual appearing to buy them from Shetland Islands Council in November last year for £550.
The public loos at Skelladale have been closed to public for more than ten years.
There had been talk of a potential takeover by the community previously, but this did not come to fruition.
Property website Rightmove said the premises offer a “blank canvas for investors, developers, or those seeking an unconventional project” – subject to planning approval.
Its blurb added: “The building is of traditional construction and benefits from an existing footprint that could lend itself to a variety of future uses.
“Previous examples of similar buildings across the UK have been successfully transformed into stylish holiday lets, cafés, studios, or quirky residential accommodation – making this an exciting prospect for those with vision.
“Internally, the property currently comprises the original layout associated with its former use, requiring full refurbishment.”
The site includes the former toilets plus a small piece of land between the building and the public pavement.
The auction itself is set to be held on 21 May through Auction House Scotland.
