SHETLANDER Dr Beth Mouat has been appointed dean of research and innovation by the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI).

Dr Mouat started in the role on Monday, and will work with UHI academic partners, deans and research leaders to strengthen research activity and impact across the partnership.

She will also lead development of the university’s research and innovation strategy, including preparation for the REF 2029 submission.

A highly experienced researcher and research leader, UHI said Dr Mouat brings a strong track record in marine science and applied research.

She was previously director of research, enterprise and impact at UHI Shetland, where she built impactful partnerships with industry, government and communities at local, national and international levels.

Dr Mouat said she was “delighted to be taking on this exciting role at UHI”.

“There is such a wealth of high-quality research and innovation happening across the partnership, and I am very much looking forward to working with colleagues and partners to support and strengthen our impact going forwards,” she added.

Professor Brian Williams, UHI’s deputy principal for academic and research, said they were very pleased Dr Mouat had agreed to take up this “important role”.

“She brings an extensive knowledge of UHI and the academic partners, broad sector knowledge around research and knowledge exchange, significant experience in research leadership, and developing capability and capacity,” he said.

“I know that she will be an excellent addition to the team.”
