News / Engineers called out to multiple power cuts
ENGINEERS from SSEN are in the process of restoring power to large parts of Shetland after five separate outages were reported overnight.
Power went out with a ‘bang’ in the Lunnasting area at about 9.30pm on Tuesday after some thunder and lightning followed by heavy hail showers. The thunder and lightning also affected parts of Northmavine.
Thanks to Mandie Fulbirg for sending in a video of lightning in the skies above Hillswick on Tuesday evening, which can be seen above..
According to SSEN’s power tracking app there are disruptions in Vidlin, Voe, Skeld, Twatt and West Burrafirth.
Power was restored in Lunnasting at just before 8.30am this morning, while Skeld is expected to be reconnected at around 9am to be followed by Voe at 11am.
Meanwhile, ferry services on Yell Sound are down to a single vessel due to the weather. Disruptions on the Whalsay crossing are also anticipated later this morning.
SSEN has been contacted for a more accurate update on the situation.
