News / Gomez man to head north

Ben Ottewell is bringing his soulful voice to Shetland next year.

A SINGER and guitarist from award-winning English indie group Gomez is set to perform in Shetland next year.

Ben Ottewell will perform at Mareel in Lerwick on 3 March.

Ottewell launched a solo career in 2011 after Gomez went on hiatus.

The band won the coveted Mercury Music Prize in 1998 for their debut album Bring It On, while they were also nominated for a Brit Award.

Ottewell released his third solo record A Man Apart earlier this year and its sound dips toes into folk rock, with the musician adding his distinctive soulful voice.

Support at the Lerwick show will come from Glasgow’s Jamie Coleman, while local act Forgotten Sons will play an acoustic set.

Tickets go on sale from the Shetland Arts Box Office or in person from Mareel at 10am today (1 December).
