Bones found on Sand beach recovered by police
POLICE were called to Sand on Monday after bones were reported to have been found on a beach in the area.
The coastguard also attended the scene after people using the beach reported finding bones in the water, as well as a survival suit in the sand.
It is believed they could be animal bones, though this has not been confirmed.
Coastguard rescue teams from Walls and Lerwick attended the scene at around 6.45pm, with the police closing the beach off to the public and removing the bones.
A witness told Shetland News that the bones had been discovered by people visiting the beach, along with a survival suit which was half buried in the sand.
Police were seen going into the water on Monday evening, with people nearby told that they could not use the beach at the time.
The coastguard confirmed that it had been called to the scene, but said it could not provide further details as it was a police job.
Police Scotland has not responded to repeated requests for comment.
