News / Chamber orchestra to return

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra will head to Shetland in June to play at events for young people.

THE SCOTTISH Chamber Orchestra is set to return to Shetland later this month for a series of concerts.

The string musicians will perform at the Aith hall on 20 July before heading to the Burravoe hall in Yell the next day, with two concerts at Mareel in Lerwick planned for 22 July.

The orchestra will be lead by Austrian-born violinist Alexander Janiczek and its programme of music is described as “highly virtuosic and entertaining”.

They will run through Bach’s Double Concerto in D minor, Bartok’s Divertimento, Two Waltzes, op. 54 by Dvorak and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings.

At 10am on 22 July, the orchestra will hold a special ‘Big Ears, Little Ears’ concert for babies and toddlers before putting on their usual show at 3pm.

The highly regarded Scottish Chamber Orchestra, who feature a wide range of talented players, last visited Shetland nearly ten years ago.

Tickets for all of the concerts are available now via Shetland Arts’ box office.
