News / Biggest wool week yet
THIS YEAR’s Shetland Wool Week looks set to be the biggest yet, with 400 people expected to attend its many events.
The ten-day celebration of knitwear and textiles will launch on Saturday in what will be its seventh year.
Organisers say nearly 200 events will be taking place throughout the whole of Shetland.
Among the new attractions will be a fashion show at the opening ceremony, while merchandise featuring a lace inspired sheep motif by isles-born designer Natty Maid will be on offer.
Over 3,000 tickets for events have been sold so far, with visitors travelling to the isles from as far away as Australia and Canada.
Promote Shetland brand marketing manager Misa Hay said that membership numbers are up by 150 per cent on last year.
“The event keeps going from strength to strength. It has truly grown into an internationally acclaimed festival as we prepare to welcome visitors from many different countries including America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand,” she said.
“We have also been completely blown away with the demand for our Shetland Wool Week annual, a unique publication packed with exclusive patterns, essays and interviews with top knitters.
“Over 2,600 copies have already been pre-ordered and we are expecting orders to increase once the publication is officially launched at Shetland Wool Week.”
She added that spaces at for some ticketed events were still available. More info can be found at: www.shetlandwoolweek.com
