News / Fine for heroin possession
A WOMAN from Aberdeen who took heroin worth £350 to Shetland for “one last spree” before going clean has been fined.
Elle Binnie, of 2D Auchinyell Terrace, previously admitted to possessing the Class A drug at Queen’s Hotel on Lerwick’s Commercial Street and the town’s police station on 13 March last year.
The 20 year old appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday after failing to appear for an earlier court date.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie told the court that Binnie had 3.91g of heroin, valued at £350, on her at the time.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said his client had been using heroin at the time and took the drug to Shetland to see friends for “one last spree” before coming off the substance.
He added that the situation had acted as a “wake-up call” for the woman.
Honorary sheriff Willie Shannon fined Binnie £450.
