LERWICK police have launched an investigation into graffiti daubed on the doors and walls of the town’s Masonic Lodge.

At 11am on Friday morning the local police were informed about Irish nationalist slogans spray painted in blue on the front and side of the Morton Lodge in Queens Lane.

The front of the building has “FTQ”, a reference to the Queen, and “BRITS OUT” painted in large lettering on the doors and wall.

The side of the hall has been painted with “OCCUPIED 6 BRITS OUT!”, referring to the six counties of Northern Ireland.

Police said that they believed the graffiti had been sprayed during the night some time between 11pm on Thursday and 10am on Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101, or anonymously contact Crimestoppers by phoning 0800 555111 or online at https://crimestoppers-uk.org.
