Letters / Utter lack of respect
Today I decided to walk my dogs around the Knab and visit the grave of a recently deceased relative.
At the entrance to the first gate at the new extension of the Lerwick graveyard I tied the dogs leads to a lamppost – leaving them off site.
Imagine my horror then, on entering the graveyard, to find a dog running around off its lead following its two owners.
The owners were oblivious to their dog scampering over the graves and, evidently, to the clear ‘no dogs’ signs at the entrance to the site.
Graveyards are sacred places and, though I love my dogs dearly, would never think to let them enter a graveyard – it shows an utter lack of respect.
