News / Injured crewman
AN AMBULANCE was called to Sullom Voe oil terminal on Sunday afternoon to take an injured crewman from an oil tanker to Lerwick’s Gilbert Bain Hospital.
The terminal called Shetland coastguard around 4pm to say the crewman on board the tanker Hildegaard had fallen and hurt his back while the ship, a regular visitor, was being escorted into Sullom Voe.
The coastguard contacted the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth where a doctor suggested the man should be taken to hospital as a precaution.
The coastguard has two hospitals designated to provide medical advice, the other being the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
