News / Welfare reform help

SHETLAND Islands Council has created a dedicated section on its website at www.shetland.gov.uk  to help islanders come to terms with the radical changes made to the benefit system.

Starting as of Monday, the much criticised welfare reform will overhaul the system of benefits, allowances and tax credits.

To help local people find their way through all the changes, suggestions on self help and where people can go for support have also been included in the section.

The council’s policy manager Emma Perring, said: “We wanted to create a central portal where people can come and access support and find out who they can talk to for advice.

“We’ll be using this area of the website to promote any local events that may be happening around welfare reform so please bookmark the pages and revisit for updates.”
