Bain’s handprints taken ahead of receiving Edinburgh Award
IMPRESSIONS of Aly Bain’s hands have been cast in clay and are ready to be carved into stone as he gets set to receive a prestigious award from the City of Edinburgh Council.
The handprints will be gilded and laid outside the City Chambers next to the prints of previous Edinburgh Award recipients including Doddie Weir, Ann Budge and Sir Chris Hoy.
Shetland’s famous fiddler has called Scotland’s capital city home for a number of decades.
The Edinburgh Award was established in 2007 to honour outstanding individuals who have made a positive impact on the city and gained national and international recognition for Edinburgh.
Bain’s name will be inscribed onto the Edinburgh Award honour panel in the City Chambers, while he will be presented with an engraved Loving Cup by the Lord Provost at a ceremony later this year.
The City of Edinburgh Council said Bain’s contribution to Scottish culture and music “remains unparalleled”.
Bain previously said he was “honoured” to be selected for the Edinburgh Award.
