Moments that should bring us together
This week, Shetland has much to be proud of. I was deeply pleased to see the strong results achieved by high school students across our islands, with our National 5 and Higher pass rates sitting above the Scottish average.
These metrics are highly encouraging, but we must remember that behind every statistic are hundreds of dedicated, hard-working young people attaining both academic grades and vital vocational qualifications.
It is moments like these that make me the proudest to live in Shetland. While issues and debate increasingly threaten to divide us, moments like these should bring our community together.
This week has shown that our islands possess immense talent. Now, we must work to prove to this generation and the next that Shetland is a place worth staying — a true place of opportunity and hope for the future.
Shetland has time and time again proven herself to be self-sufficient, resilient, and talented. These past few days have only reaffirmed it. Our future is bright and prosperous, but only if we give the next generation the tools and encouragement they need to succeed.
