Letters / Thankyou from Whalsay
I would like to thank everyone who helped raise £1635 at the Whalsay Fun Run on Saturday 25 August in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation.
Thanks to everyone who baked, donated raffle prizes, to Heather Williamson and everyone who helped with the teas in the leisure centre, the leisure centre staff for all their help, Catherine Irvine and Ruth Shearer for dealing with the entry forms, the lasses for selling the raffle, to Teresa Sandison for the brilliant cake which was won by Neil Arthur, to everyone who helped clean up afterwards, to Richie Hutchison for helping me with the signs and Kirsty Porter for making sure all the bairns were given balloons, stickers and sweeties.
Thanks to Roselyn for everything she did to help me, I would not have managed without her.
Thanks to Steve Pottinger, Steven Johnson, Caroline Shearer, Stuart Manson, Rhona Tait, Roger and Kathleen Ann Irvine for being marshalls.
Also thanks to the Whalsay Boating Club staff for their help at the disco in the evening.
And thanks to everyone who attended the Fun Run or the disco.
This cause is so important and has helped so many people, including my son William who had meningitis in 2004 and luckily recovered fully, however some people are not so lucky.
Thank you all for the wonderful donations.

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.
Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has over 600 supporters who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.
Your contribution will ensure Shetland News can: -
- Bring you the headlines as they happen;
