News / Pool contest

Stephen Leask and Robert Setrice with their silverware

POOL players from all over Shetland descended on Scalloway’s Kiln Bar for its first knockout cup competition played over the past two weeks.

With 35 entries there were plenty of shocks and surprises along the way, with some favourites faltering and one or two dark horses progressing to the latter rounds.

Two of the four quarter finals went to a final frame decider, with Stephen Leask, Robert Setrice, Robert Duthie and Robert Laurenson making it to the semis.

The first semi final saw Leask in fine form, overcoming an unlucky Laurenson 5–1, while in a tight game Setrice overcome his teammate Duthie in a deciding frame to win 5–4.

In the final Leask proved victorious by a decisive 6-3 to become the first player to have his name inscribed on the cup.

The organisers thanked the Kiln Bar and said they were looking forward to next year’s follow up tournament.
