News / A vision for the next 20 years
SHETLAND Islands Council has signed up to the Community Plan – the isles’ vision for the next 20 years.
The plan requires Shetland partnership organisations (SIC, NHS Shetland, the police, the fire service, Shetland Charitable Trust, Voluntary Action Shetland, ZetTrans, and HIE) to work together to make the isles a better place to live in.
Partnership vice chairman Ian Kinniburgh said: “During these times of financial pressure, it is more important than ever that we work together effectively, and make the best possible use of all the resources available jointly, to ensure that Shetland remains a strong, safe and healthy community where people want to live, work and prosper.”
As part of a consultation process¸ a series of workshops were held last year looking at a number of possible scenarios, and considering how different circumstances could affect the isles’ future. In total more around 800 people were consulted.
A draft version of the community plan can be found here.
