News / Hill ordered to do unpaid work
SHETLAND independence campaigner Stuart Hill has been ordered to carry our 100 hours of unpaid work after found guilty of driving without MOT, tax and insurance on two occasions this summer.
Mr Hill had been driving through Lerwick with ‘consular vehicles’ of his independent island state of Forvik, off Shetland, in an attempt to challenge Lerwick Sheriff Court’s jurisdiction over the islands.
Following several court hearings this summer, 68 year old Hill, of Orcaquay, Cunningsburgh, was found guilty of six motoring charges on Wednesday.
Sheriff Graeme Napier fined him £1,400 on Wednesday but then deferred sentence for a day for Hill to get himself assessed whether he was fit enough to do unpaid work as part of a community payback order.
When Hill re-appeared on Thursday morning, sheriff Napier imposed the order. Hill was also disqualified from driving for six months with immediate effect.
