News / Extra energy cash welcome
THE NORTHERN isles should benefit from the extra £103 million being made available for renewable energy in Scotland, according to local MP Alistair Carmichael.
The money is being released after the UK government agreed to the Scottish government’s request to release more than £200 million from the Scottish Fossil Fuel Levy.
The other half of the cash is going into the UK-wide Green Investment Bank, which is being capitalised with £3 billion.
The UK government has agreed to split further income to the fund from Scotland between the two governments.
“It is communities like ours that stand to benefit most from the growth of the renewable energy sector in Scotland and the announcement of this new funding is welcome news,” Mr Carmichael said.
