News / Scrabster’s energy hopes
SCRABSTER harbour has entered the energy market, competing with the northern isles for business with the offshore oil and renewables industry.
Scrabster Harbour Trust have announced they recently signed a confidentiality agreement with “a big renewable energy developer”.
Chairman William Calder said the mystery company was involved with marine power ventures around Orkney, but added the deal left the port well placed to attract new oil and renewable energy business.
He said: “We’re very fortunate with regard to our geography. We’re 10 miles from the main tidal streams, we’re the main mainland port closest to the west of Scotland fields, and we’re on the doorstep of the marine power developments. These new opportunities are what have been driving our long-term strategy.”
