News / Power cuts
MORE than 800 households in Shetland suffered power cuts over the past 24 hours of wind and rain, with some still waiting to be reconnected on Wednesday afternoon.
Supplies to 400 homes in the Nesting area went off at 9pm on Tuesday night, and while the majority were back on within two hours, a handful remained without power overnight and did not expect it to return until the afternoon as engineers investigated the fault.
At 5am on Wednesday morning a further 400 homes in the Quarff and Gulberwick areas were cut off after damage was caused to overhead lines in Quarff, with half restored by 7.45am and the rest back on at 11.30am after engineers repaired the fault.
Finally a broken set of insulators near Sandwick saw 20 customers in Virkie and Sumburgh lose power at 9pm on Tuesday. They were restored at 11pm after engineers isolated the fault while they carried out emergency repairs.
