News / SIC optimistic over choosing new chief
SHETLAND Islands Council still hopes to have a preferred candidate for the job of interim chief executive in place by the end of May.
The full council yesterday (Tuesday) met with Rory Mair, the chief executive of the Scottish local authorities’ umbrella group CoSLA, and Ken Dagleish, of Munro Consulting, who have been tasked to head hunt the right candidate.
Council convener Sandy Cluness said on Tuesday afternoon that the hope was to have a list with four to six candidates in place by the next meeting of the full council on 19 May, before the selection panel of seven councillors will whittle it down to one or two names after which a final decision will be taken.
The top job at the SIC became vacant when controversial chief executive Dave Clark left the local authority in February this year.
Yesterday Mr Cluness said the list would include candidates with experience in local government senior positions and “who are interested in this particular job”.
He added: “It is the panel’s job to make a recommendation to the council. Our aim is trying to get somebody in place as soon as we can, bearing in mind that the preferred candidate might be working for somebody else. We hope to have a preferred candidate towards the end of May.”
