Plenty for all the family as Scalloway Foy returns
PEOPLE are being encouraged to “start the summer holidays with a bang” at the Scalloway Foy this coming weekend.
The event is returning after making its debut last year, with a number of charitable causes set to benefit.
It echoes parts of the gala day that used to be held in Scalloway a number of years ago.
This year the foy will kick off with a Scalloway v Stromness football match at Fraser Park on Friday at 6.30pm before local bands Quorum and Razor Heat perform at the Kiln Bar.
On Saturday Main Street – from Burn Beach to Chapel Lane – will be closed to traffic between 12pm to 4pm to allow the family-friendly fun to commence.
Among the activities will be an athletics sports day at Fraser Park, stalls, games, car washing, an emergency services display and a 2026 jarl squads pie eating contest.
The first activity is set to be a five-a-side football tournament at 10.30am, with a rubber duck race at the burn near the fire station set to get underway at 11am.
For those needing a feed there will be a burger van as well as the Nomadic Pizzeria at the Kiln. There also stands to be ice cream on offer, while the youth centre will host tea and homebakes in addition to local crafts.
At 6pm a carnival procession will take place from Port Arthur before a jarl squad ale drinking and piano breaking competition at Blackness Pier.
The foy will round off with music from Marackled and Joking Aside at the Scalloway Hall from 9pm.
The event is organised by the Scalloway Fire Festival fundraising committee, with money raised set to go to the Scalloway and Trondra over 60s, the Save Scalloway Pool group, Shetland Athletics Club, the Scalloway galley shed, TSB Football Club, Scalloway Youth Centre and Scalloway Brownies.
