Closure of Fetlar station recommended by fire service
THE SCOTTISH Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) looks set to push ahead with plans to close the dormant Fetlar station.
Closing the island facility is one of a number of recommendations which will be put to the SFRS board for decision on 22 June.
The Fetlar station has not been manned for a number of years, and consultation has already been held with the community.
The proposed changes at the SFRS come after a service delivery review amid financial challenges.
Speaking recently, Shetland community safety and resilience board chairman councillor Allison Duncan called the Fetlar situation a “saga” and said it has taken a “ridiculous” amount of time to come to a formal decision.
It was one year ago that news of the possible closure first emerged.
Three long-term dormant stations in the Highland region are recommended to be closed, as well as one in Stirlingshire, while there are a number of other alterations proposed elsewhere in Scotland.
