Community / Bikers raise nearly £3,000 for local Alzheimer’s charity
ZETLAND Motorcycle Club (ZMCC) has raised almost £3,000 for local charity Alzheimer’s Shetland through a year of fundraising.
The club decided to dedicate its fundraising efforts to the Shetland branch of Alzheimer Scotland this year, which supports local carers of people with the disease.
It also provides information and advice about Alzheimer’s, as well as organising community activities with carers and their loved ones.
ZMCC’s biggest charity money raising event was its annual bike rally in the summer, where some of its members donned Alzheimer’s Shetland merchandise to raise awareness.
The charity was chosen by the club at random, having decided to support Shetland Sands the year before and the Super Carr Kids campaign in 2023.
At the ZMCC annual AGM earlier this year, it was announced that the club and its members had raised £2,816.58 for Alzheimer’s Shetland.
This year, the club will instead fundraise throughout the year but has not yet selected a charity to distribute the money to.
ZMCC secretary Shannon Kelly said they would raise money through to next year’s AGM, before deciding then who to give it to – so that the charity could benefit immediately, rather than waiting for a year to get the funding.
