THE TENTH series of BBC crime drama Shetland is set to hit screens across the UK in a couple of weeks.

The first episode of the six-part series is scheduled to air on BBC One on Wednesday 5 November at 9pm.

The series will again see Ashley Jensen (DI Ruth Calder) team up with Alison O’Donnell (DI Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh).

Originally based on award-winning novels by crime writer Ann Cleeves, the new series sees Calder and Tosh travel to the isolated hamlet of Lunniswick to investigate the killing of an elderly woman.

“As they begin to unravel life in this close-knit community, shocking, long-buried secrets rise to the surface with unexpected consequences for all – including the team,” programme information said.

Regulars such as Steven Robertson (playing DC Sandy Wilson), Lewis Howden (Sgt Billy McCabe) and Anne Kidd (pathologist Cora McLean) will also feature in series ten.

The guest cast includes Clive Russell (The Witcher, Sandman), Ellie Haddington (Motherland, Guilt), Niall MacGregor (The Bombing of Pan AM 103, Line of Duty) and Greg McHugh (Guilt, The A Word).

Filming took place in Shetland as well as on the mainland.

Locally Levenwick was the location for Lunniswick.

Kate Bartlett of production company Silverpoint Pictures said the new series has a “distinctive and emotionally complex story, set against the stunning and evocative landscape of the Shetland Isles”.
