THE PLOT and guest cast for series 10 of the highly acclaimed drama series Shetland have been revealed by the BBC.

Filming has already begun in locations on the Scottish mainland, with Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell returning as DI Ruth Calder and DI Alison ‘Tosh’ MacIntosh respectively.

Filming in Shetland will commence on 13 April.

The 10th series is set to debut on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.

Calder and Tosh will have to travel to the isolated hamlet of Lunniswick in the new series to investigate the sinister murder of an elderly woman, the BBC has said.

After discovering the body of the retired social worker had been out in the elements for a number of days, the pair dig into the victim’s past and present.

“They soon begin to uncover dark secrets and terrible deeds at the heart of this closeknit community,” the BBC added.

Series regular Steven Robertson will also return as DC Sandy Wilson, with Samuel Anderson – who recently appeared in the BBC’s Amandaland – joining the cast as new procurator fiscal Matt Blake.

Also joining the cast for the six-part series are Clive Russell (The Witcher), Ellie Haddington (Motherland, Guilt), Niall MacGregor (Line of Duty), Greg McHugh (Guilt, The A Word), Frances Gray (Tom Jones, Vera), Louise Brealey (Such Brave Girls, Clique) and Stuart Townsend (Into The Deep, Two Minutes to Midnight).

Stephen McMillan, who recently appeared in Netflix’s Toxic Town, will also join along with Saskia Ashdown (The Rig), Lila Rose (Traces), Joanne Thomson (Outlander), Gabriel Akuwudike (Screw, The Beautiful Game) and Leigh Biagi (The Prodigal Father, The Lost King).

Shetland was in the top 10 most watched BBC drama series last year, and was the number one BBC drama of 2024 in Scotland.

BBC commissioning editor Gaynor Holmes said Shetland “continues to go from strength to strength”, and is “loved by audiences across the UK and internationally”.
