AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL dig at a challenging site in Shetland’s North Mainland is set to be featured on BBC TV show Landward this week.

The excavation of land at the Kame of Isbister, near North Roe, will feature on the TV show on Thursday evening.

The dig, undertaken this summer, was initiated by Dr Andrew Jennings and Dr Simon Clarke of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and led by professor Gordon Noble of Aberdeen University as part of his Northern Picts project.

The Kame is a rocky headland 38 metres high which is only accessible with the use of ropes.

Among the items found during the dig were Pictish or Viking tools.

The Landward episode will be shown on the BBC Scotland channel on Thursday at 8.30pm and on BBC One in Scotland on Friday at 7.30pm.
