News / Glamping pods planned for Westings Inn

TWO glamping pods could be built outside the Westings Inn in Whiteness, which is in the process of refurbishment.

Owner David Sutherland has applied for planning permission to build two one-bedroom pods in the garden outside the seven-bedroom hotel.

Glamping pods are already available in the North and South Mainland.

Brothers David and Tom Sutherland – who also own Herrislea House Hotel in Tingwall – took over the dormant Westings earlier this year.

It had been closed since the 2010s.

David Sutherland told Shetland News in March the plan was to keep it much the same as before – but turn the bar into a cafe bar, serving tea, coffee, homebakes and light lunches as well as alcohol.

He said he felt a cafe is lacking in the area and further west, particularly with the Bonhoga gallery closed until next year due to refurbishment.

The hotel opened for bookings again in June, but its cafe bar is only likely to be open to the public again next year.
