Weather / Most schools stay closed for a second day
MANY children in Shetland are starting their Christmas break early due to most schools deciding to stay shut in the snowy weather.
Brae High, Mid Yell Junior High, Mossbank Primary, all Westside schools apart from Sandness as well as Nesting primary are among those to close today (Friday) after snowfall overnight caused tricky road conditions.
It comes after all schools in Shetland were closed on Thursday due to high winds.
The only schools OPEN today (Friday) are:
- Anderson High School;
- Baltasound Junior High;
- Sandwick Junior High;
- Whalsay Junior High;
- and the primaries at Burravoe, Cullivoe, Dunrossness, Fair Isle, Foula, Sandness and Cunningsburgh.
The Met Office has placed Shetland under a new yellow weather warning for snow and ice until 10am on Saturday.
Bus companies have warned of possible delays to services, and there is disruption to school transport.
Here are some more updates as confirmed by the council a short time ago:
- There is no transport to Anderson High School.
