Court / Court round-up 15 February 2023
TWO MEN from Argyll and Bute appeared from custody in private at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday on charges of assault and behaving in a threatening or abusive behaviour.
Forty three year old Paul Bonnar faced a charge of assault to injury, while 22-year-old Calum Bonnar was charged with assault.
They made no plea, were committed for further examination and released on bail.
A CONFISCATION order for money totalling £30,255 which had been seized by police was made at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday against a man previously sentenced for being concerned in the supply of cannabis.
The proceeds of crime hearing involved Steven Priest, 60, of Grampian Prison, who had been given a custodial sentence for being involved in the supply of the class B drug in Lerwick in June last year.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank ordered the sum to be transferred from the police to the court.
A MAN from Gulberwick has had his sentence deferred after admitting driving without due care or attention by going too slowly and veering across the road.
Laurence Paton, of Shurton Brae, committed the offence on the road between Scalloway and the Trondra Bridge on 17 November.
Concern was raised about the 77-year-old’s driving around 7.15pm by the occupants of a vehicle behind.
Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that Paton was driving “extremely slowly”, veering back and forth across the road and nearly going into a ditch. The police were subsequently called.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie added that the driver said he was blinded by the lights of oncoming vehicles.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank deferred the case until 15 March to allow Paton to appear in person and to have mitigation.
A MAN from Lerwick was fined £200 and given six penalty points at the town’s sheriff court on Wednesday for driving whilst using a hand held mobile phone.
James Bedding, 24, of West Baila, committed the offence at Holmsgarth Road in Lerwick on 18 July last year.
