Council / Convener opens council meeting with tribute to Queen
SHETLAND Islands Council convener Andrea Manson formally paid tribute to the late Queen at a meeting on Wednesday morning.
However Shetland Central member Ian Scott – a vocal critic of the monarchy – was not present in the chamber during the tribute.
Manson said Elizabeth, who reigned for 70 years, was a “constant in all of our lives”.
She said the Queen was “much admired” and carried out her duties with “charm, wit and grace”.
Manson added that the council sent its “deepest sympathies” to the royal family. “Your loss is our loss,” she said.
The convener also moved to personally thank staff at the Town Hall for helping out at the well-attended proclamation of King Charles earlier this month.
She also thanked councillor Allison Duncan for driving around care homes in Shetland to allow residents of staff to sign the Queen’s book of condolence.
