Community / No success in finding new Ulsta postmaster
THE POST Office says it has received “no interest” in anyone wanting to relaunch postal services in Ulsta in Yell.
The branch closed around one year ago following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for use.
It was described as a temporary closure, with the Post Office launching a consultation.
But Post Office’s network provision lead David Duff said the company has not received any applications for the postmaster position.
“We would of course consider any appropriate options if there are any significant changes in the area in the future,” he added.
“However due to the length of time the branch has been closed, we would need to satisfy ourselves that any new opportunity would be sustainable for both Post Office Ltd and the operator.”
Duff said the Post Office “regretted” that it was unable to restore a service in Ulsta.
There are postal services elsewhere in Yell, such as in Burravoe and Aywick.
