Community / Up Helly Aa squad’s relay total reaches £18,500
AN UP Helly Aa squad which walked through Lerwick for 12 hours overnight for charity has revealed it has now raised £18,500 in total.
Squad number one – the teachers squad – covered the usual halls route across town in groups, kicking off their relay on what should have been Up Helly Aa night.
The fire festival was postponed for a second year in a row due to the Covid pandemic.
The squad arrived at Lerwick Town Hall at around 8.30am to finish the relay.
The money raised will go towards the local Cancer Research Relay for Life.
Squad member Graeme Garrick said in an update posed online that the group was “absolutely delighted” with the total.
“Thanks to everybody involved, donated and helped in anyway to make it happen,” he said.
