Letters / Does anyone know of James Smith?
I am trying to track down someone called James Smith, who was born in 1891, one of the sons of James Andrew Smith (1852-1923) and Mary Leslie.
The family originated in Mid Yell, and eventually moved to Bank Lane in Lerwick.
James was vice-chair of the Social Democratic Party in Lerwick, later the British Socialist Party, in 1911-12, and chair in 1913.
His elder brother Robert, who died in Bank Lane in 1951, went on to be chair of the branch in 1915-16.
The late Ena Butler, their niece, told me about them years ago, but I never found out what happened to James. Can anyone help?
